Our brain is divided into separate areas. Some control our motoric movements, others our language and an other controls our emotions. Billions of cells (neurons) interact with each other to ensure that informations end up precisely where they are supposed to go. To communicate with each other, the cells use so-called neurotransmitters. These are small molecules that pass informations from cell to cell. One of these neurotransmitters is serotonin.
Serotonin is the central neurotransmitter in our limbic system - the system that controls our emotions. Serotonin makes us feel safe, it makes us happy and gives us the feeling of joy. In addition, it fights back fear, misery and aggression. Interestingly, people who suffer depressions, face a lack of serotonin.
Luckily, we know how to keep the ever-lasting production of serotonin going:
Being out there, exploring the planet, doing the outdoor activities we love - THAT'S what gives us joy! That is what makes us work so hard and that is why we get up in the morning.
Pollution, plastic-waste and destruction are our number one enemies, because facing dead coral reefs, facing dead sea-birds that died with a stomach full of plastic waste - that's what depresses us.
To fight depression, and to assuage our desires of serotonin, we provide the Solution.
